Swiss Round Table on Antibiotics

Fourth General Assembly

30 May 2023

The fourth General Assembly of the Round Table on Antibiotics took place on 30 May 2023 at the Swiss Institute for Translational and Enterpreneurial Medicine (sitem-insel) in Bern.

The President provided an overview of the increasing number of activities in year 2022. The association  started its ambitious Pull project end of 2022; a project which pursues the implementation of a pull incentive system for new antibiotics in Switzerland.

The financial resources of the association have developed encouragingly thanks to further contributions by our industry partners, a subsidy from the Federal Office of Public Health and the generous donation of a private foundation. The General Assembly approved the President's report on progress made in 2022, the 2022 financial statements, the financial report of the auditor, and the budget 2023. The Board was discharged and re-elected unanimously.

The association welcomed almost twenty new members in the past twelve months: eleven full and seven associated members. With each new member expertise and experience available to the association broadened and deepened. Another important step in forming and driving the organization was the election of Barbara Polek as Managing Director of the Round Table on Antibiotics. Thus the Round Table is well prepared to tackle the next tasks in the Pull project.

Following the General Assembly, Dr Claus Bolte, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Authorisations at Swissmedic, gave an informative talk about «Authorisation of new antibiotics – direct routes and detours». The topic was further discussed in the subsequent panel discussion.
